The UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures will welcome the African American Quilting Circle, which will conduct a quilting workshop, teaching basic sewing and quilting skills.
Limited to 20 seats. (RSVP Below)
The ITC will supply each participant a jar containing materials to create a quilting square. They will learn key vocabulary and processes needed in quilting, while having the opportunity to learn more about the quilting circle’s stories, quilts, and makers. Library reference books on quilting will be available.
Quilts were a necessity for poor African American sharecroppers, to preserve warmth. They kept every scrap of cloth, then worked together to sew the scraps into blankets.
The quilting workshop is intended for ages 15+.
