VIVA ITC! EXHIBIT
Opens April 6, 2018
The Institute of Texan Cultures began with HemisFair’68 and it continues to inspire and educate today. The exhibit details the origins of the institute, from its commissioning in 1965, to opening in 1968, re-opening as a permanent museum and educational center after HemisFair, and its continuing work serving the state of Texas.
VIVA HEMISFAIR! EXHIBIT
Opens April 6, 2018
Through historical photos, personal anecdotes, HemisFair memorabilia, archive film footage and more, the exhibit reveals what it took to put on the fair, and how it impacted San Antonio and the surrounding area.
The Utsa Institute Of Texan Cultures Established The Texas Star Heritage Awards To Recognize Individuals And Organizations Whose Work Champions Diversity, Preserving Heritage And Educating The Community.
“For a long time, the Institute of Texan Cultures has worked behind the scenes and out of the spotlight, building educational materials, documenting cultures, recording and preserving stories,” said ITC Executive Director Angelica Docog. “There are a lot of good people and organizations that have carried that torch to the far corners of our state. They’ve provided funding toward special projects, paved the way for laws and conservation efforts, and wrote the books on what Texas is all about. What they do matters, because they are preserving our heritage and our identity so the next generation knows and understands what it means to be a Texan.”
The museum recognizes a local honoree, a regional honoree, and a business or organization honoree, selected in a competitive process by a panel of civic and business leaders. The nominees have demonstrated their contributions to the advancement of cultural identity, heritage and diversity throughout the state of Texas and beyond. “The three recipients of the Texas Star Heritage Award are being recognized for embodying the mission of ITC and promoting the diverse cultures of our great state,” said ITC Executive Director Angelica Docog. “Our Texas Stars reach beyond Texas. Each community leader understands the importance for transforming San Antonio into an international city. They enable us to become a leading partner in a global platform. Our museum is proud to recognize their contributions to society and our world.”
The 2018 Award winners will be announced on Friday April 6 in conjunction with the ITC’s 50th Anniversary Celebration.
