Last week, Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued a disaster declaration for all 254 Texas counties due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The same day, San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg declared a State of Public Health Emergency in San Antonio after confirming the first travel-related case of coronavirus in the city.
In response to these developments and to support the health and wellbeing of visitors, the museum has taken steps to lessen the possibility of spreading germs.
- Interactive trunks and hands-on components have been removed from various exhibits at the museum.
- The Tex-kit program, which provides hands-on artifact trunks to area schools for classroom instruction, has been suspended.
- School tours and public programs have been canceled for the remainder of March.
UTSA is closely monitoring the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and is receiving guidance from The University of Texas System, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization and San Antonio Metro Health.
