DECEMBER 7, 2020 — Vinny Genco joined the UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures on Sept. 1, 2020, and comes to the ITC after three years as an event coordinator with UTSA Campus Services.
Genco made all the arrangements for guests to park on campus to attend special events: reserving spaces or lots, managing parking garage access and coordinating parking personnel. That job, combined with two years on the staff council, helped him build a network of contacts and relationships across every level of the UTSA community.
As ITC’s operations specialist, Vinny is essential personnel, on-site eight hours every weekday, to oversee the museum’s ongoing business. He’s currently helping to conduct the ITC facilities clean-up project, as museum, library and university personnel review the institute’s collections and infrastructure.
He takes on the position with great optimism and confidence in the mission of the ITC.
“We can work with the elementary and high school students. We can also work with locals and tourists,” he said. “We want them to come in and say, ‘I don’t remember this; it was different back then.’ It’s going to be extraordinary.”
Vinny was born in El Paso to a military family and lived in Baltimore, Maryland, since he was six years old. He moved to San Antonio in 2016 when he began work at UTSA.
